8. Australian Pioneer Dancers & Musicians

The Australian Pioneer Dancers and Musicians was formed by Wongawilli Colonial was formed to create a larger company of dancers and musicians to demonstrate Australia’s traditions. The first performance was at Bush Music By The Seaside, Kiama, October 1993.

Dancers have come from a number of groups from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Bendigo, Sutherland, Shoalhaven and Wongawilli. The largest gathering at the 1996 National Folk Festival in Canberra consisited of over 90 dancers and 50 musicians!

The dances performed have included Stockyards, Country Bumpkin, Circle Waltz, La Galopade, Galop Qaudrille, Varsoviana, Fitzroy Quadrille, Tempest, Waltz Country Dance, Four Sisters Barn Dance, Circassian Circle, Princess Polka.

The music has been drawn from the vast collection of tunes collected from bush musicians.
